La braid is a line body quite recent in the world of fishing. In the past, some twenty years ago, the fishermen at sea, mainly from bar, used only nylon or the fishing lineBoth for practices in freshwater lures than for sea fishing.
The development of sport fishing and the evolution of technologies have enabled innovative brands to offer this new solution, such as line. In fact, it has far more advantages than disadvantages for the sea fishing, this will also be true for a product of the fluorocarbon.
We're going to try and show you the different characteristics of a braid which will use its inelasticity to compete with nylon and fluorocarbon. We will see that its number of strands, his colour, the size of the coil or the nature of its fibres may be more or less suitable for a sea fishing.
The number of strands
This is one of the most important aspects of the choice you are going to make. The number of strands implies a real difference in the qualities offered by the braid. You'll need to opt for one quality or the other depending on your needs fishing conditions. It's the same as for the rest of the equipment, so if you're looking for a boat bar, for example, you'll need to select the right equipment to perform well. Whoever has the price the lowest will be 4 strands. This construction is standard. It is the first to have been a real success with the fishermen in particular with . Its main qualities come from its greater abrasion resistance. As its strands are thicker for the same diameter, they will tend to be much tougher when you are practising a lure technique around obstacles and so on. The price will of course be the second very interesting point.
La 8 strands is the model that dethroned the original and gradually replaced it with a new one enhanced model. As is easy to understand, this model is made up of 8 fibre which are blended together during the manufacturing process. This makes it possible to offer a much more round, if we look at it in cross-section. This leads to a better slide thread in the rings of your canes, so throws more distant for an equal diameter, which is essential when looking for the bar since edge. This will also help you to get through the current better for your fishing jigging and therefore need less weight for keys that are easier to detect. This is the multi-purpose braid par excellence.
Models 12 and even 16 strands are also available. You'll benefit from an even more pronounced round profile and exceptional glide. But the great advantage of this choice is the greater strength of these braids for equal diameters. If you're looking for super-powered fish in a water without obstacles, you should not hesitate if the price allows you to do so.
Diameter, an important choice
Even if we still have to match the resistance of its braids to the power of its canes, we can give you a broader view of the diameters you should be looking at for different fish and techniques:
- For Ultra Light practices of 0.5 to 5g, use 6 to 8/100
- For Light practices of 2 to 8g, rather 10 to 12/100
- For Medium and Medium Light applications weighing from 5 to 21g, opt for 14 to 16/100
- For Medium Heavy and Heavy from 10 to 60, the diameter will be 18 to 26/100
- Finally, for XH and XXH, choose braids from 28/100 and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
The colour of your plaits
Chances are you've already heard a lot of different things about the concept of colour. Everyone has their own experience, which they pass on to others fishermen beginners with a thirst for new knowledge and skills choice the right choice. Here's some information you can use as a basis for your purchases.
For vertical fishing or use jigging, it's best to opt for a braid that will give your hair a more natural look multicolour profile. This coloured marking on a regular spacing will give you a perfect reading of the position of your lure and control your animations. Some keys are even easier to locate with these markings, allowing you to start the hardware and make fish.
For use from edge or from a boat, there are widely differing views on the need for discretion with regard to fish, but also the needs of the fisherman to see its line. We leave it to you to choose from a wide range of possibilities.
Le white will be reputed to be easy to see for the fisherman, even in direct sunlight. This can be an advantage when practising from the edge. Le red or pink is announced as the colours becoming the most discrete once in water. Le yellow will be visible, and the green discreet in the water, just like the blue.
As we said, each situation can have a different solution in the choice of material. Don't forget to adapt your equipment according to the weather conditions, this is also the case for rods, our article "What type of fishing rod for rough seas ?"To find out more, click here.
Packaging the reel
This is the last aspect you need to consider. There are several packaging enabling you to fulfil your reel. You will need to make your choice depending on the size of its coils.
For sizes 1000 to 2500, we opt for coils between 120 and 150 metres. La size 3000 will still be able to accept this packaging, but from 4000, we tend to take coils more important. Minimum lines 200m will be perfect for filling the coil and will be a reserve that may be of interest in the event of very large fish.
For the larger sizes, it really depends on your fishing technique and diameter that you decide to install directly on the reel. For example, for trail, some fishermen can opt for windings exceeding 1000m.
