Gamakatsu

Gamakatsu started making hooks in 1955. At the time, they were the smallest hook manufacturers in Japan, so much so that all their hooks were handmade.

In 1963, the success of their manufacturing enabled them to invest in a new casting system, which allowed them to develop and automate their manufacturing process to position themselves at the forefront of the Japanese market. In 1974, they introduced fully automated hook manufacturing machines and Gamakatsu the company then decided it was necessary to build a second factory to meet the growing demand.

In 1976, building on their success as a Japanese hook manufacturer Gamakatsu began building a new factory to produce high quality fishing rods for the Japanese market to complement their range.

After modernising the hook manufacturing machinery in 1986, the range of products on offer was greatly expanded. As a result Gamakatsu became a major manufacturer with a complete range of fishing rods, hooks, clothing and fishing-related items of all kinds by 1987.

In 1988, after major modernisation work on its automated hardening facilities and a further extension of its hook factory, Gamakatsu opened two new factories in China and Thailand to offer even more production to anglers who were fans of the brand.

Gamakatsu shares the role of the world's leading hook manufacturer with the French brand VMC. Gamakatsu is constantly testing new materials and striving to improve its products, which are already the standard for the rest of the industry.

Innovation is a real challenge for the brand, which continues to grow around the world. So in 1992, Gamakatsu USA. was created to supply Gamakatsu brand staples to the American market, followed by the creation of SPRO, Gamakatsu 's official exclusive agent, established in the Netherlands in 1994 to serve the European market.
