Carnivorous Fly & Streamer

Fly fishing and lure fishing have a lot in common. Flies and streamers are lures for predator fishing. They imitate insects or fish to lure a predator or salmonid. Made from feathers or fur, in a range of sizes and weights, flies and streamers are increasingly being used to catch perch, black bass or pike.

Flies and streamers, lures for educated fish

Streamers and flies are lures made from hair, feathers, tinsel and other synthetic materials. Very light, they rarely have balls and swim very slowly.

Flies and streamers have been adapted for predator fishing. Streamers have become heavier so that they can be used with a rod lure. However, they are made from the same materials. Still not widely used in predator fishing, streamers attract the wildest predators. In overfished waters, these silent, beadless lures will whet the appetite of pike, perch and black bass.

Flies and streamers for predator fishing

Initially used for trout and salmon fishing, flies and streamers are increasingly being used for predators such as pike, black bass and perch.

To target these different species, these lures have evolved. Streamers are heavier to fish deeper water and make them easier to cast with traditional lure rods. There are also streamers for sea fishing that imitate small crustaceans for bass fishing. The size of streamers has also evolved, with streamers of up to 25cm available for fishing for large pike.
