Cuttlefish and squid beware! Eging is the fishing of cephalopods at sea. These unusual fish are caught with eging lures called jigs or squids. These lures imitate prawns, the prey of cuttlefish. Like most sea fishing lures, eging lures come in a range of colours and sizes.

Cuttlefish are caught all year round. However, it is in spring that they come closer to the coasts and harbours. At this time of year, cuttlefish fishing is much more popular. You can use jigs, also known as calamari, from the shore or from a boat. These lures imitate prawns, a delicacy for cuttlefish and squid.
These lures are specially armed. The mouth of a cuttlefish is completely different to that of the predators we are used to fishing. To be effective, jigs and squids have a basket of hooks on the tail of the lure that cuttlefish and squid cling to with their tentacles.
As with all lures used for sea or freshwater predator fishing, jigs and squids come in a variety of colours and sizes.
Depending on the spots you're fishing, you can also choose the speed at which the jigs sink. For example, you can choose a faster or slower squid jig depending on the depth of your spot and the aggressiveness of the cuttlefish.
Cuttlefish and squid fishing can be done at night. That's why some jigs come in UV and phosphorescent colours to make them visible in the dark. You'll also find jigs with or without balls to suit the mood of these fish.
