Popular with pike anglers abroad, the wobbling spoon has claimed a large number of victims. Nicknamed the shoehorn because of its shape, its erratic swimming action triggers the aggression of pike and trout.
In France, it is still not widely used, although it is increasingly being adapted to our lakes and rivers. Brightly coloured, with holographic stickers or metallic, they also come in a range of sizes and weights.
Westin in France, for example, the French manufacturers Svartzonker and Svartzonker have distributed their pike spoons, with models in the 50g range for 13cm.
Trout spoons are available from Smith or Daiwa with small models in all shapes and colours. Greatly appreciated for trout fishing in areas, it has also proved its worth in rivers and mountain lakes on wild trout.
Its low wind resistance means you can cast long distances. This means you can reach the fish unseen with the utmost discretion.
Unlike its cousin the spinning spoon, the wobbling spoon needs to be animated to make the most of its power of attraction. To do this, nothing could be simpler than to cast it, accompany it on its descent and give it a few taps.
In this way, the spoon will undulate erratically and seduce predators and salmon. This animation is much slower than with a spinning spoon and will win over most reluctant fish.
