Fluorocarbon Shimano

There are many different types of filament for designing leaders or line bodies: braid, fluorocarbon, nylon, etc. Each type of filament has its own set of characteristics. It's up to you to choose your filament according to the techniques you wish to use and the species you are targeting. Among Shimano accessories, fluorocarbon is widely used for making leaders.

Fluorocarbon Shimano, ideal for leaders

Fluorocarbon is an ideal filament for designing your leaders, whether you're looking for discretion or strength. Its UV refraction index is very close to that of water, which makes it virtually invisible and makes it a very good thread for optimising discretion with educated predators.

Shimano fluorocarbon is sold in small spools of 10 to 50m, making it ideal for use in rigs and leaders. Unlike nylon, which is also used for lure fishing, fluorocarbon has very little elasticity.

What type of fishing uses fluorocarbon?

Available in diameters ranging from 16/100 to 100/100, Shimano fluorocarbon can be used for a variety of techniques and species. For pike, fluoro from 60/100 will be fairly resistant to breakage and cutting.

As for 16/100, its fineness and near invisibility will make it ideal for trout and chub fishing.

Its low elasticity is highly appreciated for so-called extraction fishing. In dead wood, obstacles and weedbeds, fluorocarbon provides a direct link between your lure and your catch, which will have very little margin to pull on your line. When using a texas rig or rubber jig, fluorocarbon is the filament to use.
