Carnivore anglers love to measure their catches! To do this in the best possible conditions for both angler and fish, measuring mats and rulers are essential catching accessories. The less time the fish are out of the water, the better off they'll be! If you're fishing from the shore, you can opt for a traditional measuring ruler, while a mat will be much appreciated on a boat.

Measuring rulers are widely used for measuring predators on boats. They are often rigid and take up a lot of space, but make it easy to measure fish. With rulers, there is no risk of them bending and distorting the measurement of your fish.
Measuring rulers can be used flat on the floor of the boat or vertically, with the nose of the fish in abutment. The aim is to measure the fish so that you can keep a souvenir of it or know whether it is authorised to be caught. In both cases, the fish must be measured quickly to preserve its health and enable it to be returned to the water in the best possible condition.
Measuring mats are tools for measuring fish. Similar to a measuring ruler, the mat is flexible and folds on itself. They are more versatile than rulers and are used for shore, float tube and boat fishing.
Unlike the ruler, the mat is flexible. It can therefore fold in on itself when measuring.
Some measuring mats are padded to ensure optimum comfort for the fish. They help to stabilise your catch when measuring. So you can put your pike, zander, perch or black bass back in the water in the best possible conditions in the hope of catching it again one day.
