Okuma

Okuma is a Japanese fishing brand, offering top-quality tackle such as reels and rods for a wide range of fishing styles.

In the 1980s, the fishing tackle market was stagnant, dominated by just a few manufacturers. Yet there was still much potential in the world of fishing, with many mysteries and challenges to be discovered and overcome. Fishing, one of the oldest activities, needed to be redefined. So the creators ofOkuma asked themselves: how can we inspire a new ambition in the world's fishermen?

Transformation was the answer. And it was only possible through a revolution in fishing equipment. They knew that this process would take time and that they would have to be resilient and patient, just like the bear. This inspired them to name their companies Okuma, the Japanese word for 'bear'. This animal reflects the spirit and high quality of the equipment produced by the Japanese brand. In 1986, Okuma was created.
